A Year of Less: Thoughts

If you've never checked out The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking, hop on over and take a peak. I think it's a lovely blog with some really practical advice. I link to it on the left side of my blog under Blogs I Love.

One thing that jumped out at me recently is the idea of The Year of Less. This is a new blog started by Kelly (from The Complete Guide) and her husband, Luke, which focuses on simplifying their lives one step at a time.

T and I have discussed before how we have too much stuff. Stuff in closets. Stuff overflowing from boxes. Stuff under the bed.

I don't even remember what half of this stuff is, I just know it's there!

Plus, more stuff = more to clean! Yuck.

I'm telling you, the more times I have to dig through a closet just to find an item, the more I want to be a minimalist!

Maybe I'll introduce the idea to T and see what he thinks....

What do you think? Would you rather have less stuff?

Do you worry that you will need an item later (like me!)?

  1. I keep working toward the goal of minimalism, and I'm quick to throw out stuff. (It's a habit after four years of living in a teensy apartment.) But it seems like every time I do, my husband needs what I threw out within a week! Happens every time. :)

  2. Such a hard principle to live by, but so good in theory. I'm totally on the fence. I try not to keep too much "junk" around... but I also find myself buying things we don't need either. It's like I just don't know where to draw the line. Ugh.

    1. I do the same thing...Especially, if its just a buck at the thrift store. Still don't need it, no matter how cheap it was!

  3. Yes! This has been on my mind all summer. It's an ongoing process of letting go not just of stuff, but of unrealistic expectations of how many craft projects I can undertake, ha. I've been purging, and it feels great. Am checking out The Year of Less link right now, thanks for sharing!

    1. Once you get going it does feel great! This weekend I went through all of my gift wrapping stuff(I feel like a hoarder when it comes to stuff like this, I save every gift bag I receive) and recycled everything I wouldn't use or didn't really like.

      Sigh of relief!
